Traffic Design
Since 1985, FDA has prepared over 300 Signal, Signing & Marking, and Lighting Plan sets for various government entities throughout Florida.
All traffic plans are designed to closely adhere to the most current editions of the Florida Department of Transportation’s Plans
Preparation Manual (PPM), Design Standards, Specifications, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and all local standards.
Notable Projects:
- Signals - Meridian Street (Florida Department of Transportation District Seven): This project traverses the Channelside District of east downtown Tampa and involved six interconnected signals and the electrical task for the roadway lighting. Coordination with the Tampa-Hillsborough County Expressway Authority, City of Tampa and FDOT were vital in this high-profile project. This project is the termination point for the Leroy Selmon’s elevated, reversible lanes between Tampa and Brandon. This project presented unusual traffic engineering challenges throughout design and construction of its ultimate and interim phases.
- Signing & Marking - US 19 (49th Street to 126th Avenue) (Florida Department of Transportation District Seven): This project included Single Point Urban Interchanges on US 19 at 110th Avenue and 118th Avenue with frontage roads adjacent to the mainline. Tight right of way constraints, numerous utility conflicts, a large number of overhead sign structures and a complex Master Signing Plan all contributed to make this a challenging project. The plans included over 200 signs with over 40 custom designed signs on 15 overhead structures.
- Lighting - Spruce Street Interchange (Florida Department of Transportation District Seven): This project involved the lighting design adjacent to the Tampa International Airport. All fixtures were placed according to PPM design criteria and Part 77 ‘Objects Affecting Navigable Airspace’ of the Federal Aviation Regulations. All fixtures were full cutoff, flat glass with varying heights and wattages. Plans included over 250 poles and fixtures.
